Our Spiritual Leader: Cay TomerlinCay Tomerlin, LUT

Greetings;

If you have found your way to this page, I assume that you want to know how qualified I am to be the Spiritual Leader of Unity Centre.  I may have a little unorthodox approach to my introduction but I believe this will share more about me than any degrees or titles I may have accumulated since my birth in 1955:

I AM a Way Follower of the teachings of Jesus the Christ, who I have accepted as my Way Shower!  I teach the truth based on what Jesus taught, and what Unity has built its Five Principles on.

My role as Spiritual Leader is to hold these truths for the Centre as well as for all of those who attend.  I take this seriously and make every effort to evolve into the Christ consciousness-living it in my daily walk.  I try to walk on water (above the turbulence of the natural thoughts of limitation) but there are times my ankles get wet, there are occasions the water rises to my knees and sometimes I go down on the count of three because I have missed the mark totally.  My saving grace is that I examine my daily walk, become aware, and make every effort to seek the kingdom of right-use-ness before acting the next time.

As I was attending Unity’s School of Spiritual Education Enrichment (SEE), I found it odd that Jesus didn’t have a license to speak truth but I needed one…but in spite of the irony… I graduated and became a Licensed Unity Teacher (LUT) in March 2010.  I enjoyed the journey, my fellow students and the facilitators that helped to draw forth what was already within.

In 1981 I graduated from Youngstown State University with a BS in Business Administration, majoring in Management with a minor in Economics.

In 1975-1977 I was in the United States Marine Corps, serving at Headquarters, Arlington, Virginia in the Disbursing Department after training at Camp Lejeune, NC and Boot Camp at Paris Island, SC.

I have been married to my best friend, Reed Broadway, since May 1985, and with the marriage came four beautiful children (three daughters and a son) that I was fortunate enough to help love and raise.  We now have 10 grandchildren and one great grandson, and although I am not a “typical grandma nor have the time to be one”, I love them all dearly and am blessed to have them in my life.

I currently have a full time job at Delphi Packard Electric working in Cost Accounting as well as a Plant Accounting for Manufacturing.  Therefore, I only manage the spiritual side of the Centre making sure that there are good lessons on Sunday, a strong-growing Family Youth Ministry, Adult Education and workshops, as well as Prayer and Visitations.  I can only do this because the Centre has a strong-dedicated Board of Directors that manage the building and the staff, for which I am grateful.

In my spare time I enjoy Dances of Universal Peace, am currently studying with Neale Donald-Klotz the Semitic Scholar from Scotland, who has helped me to learn the Lord’s Prayer in Aramaic, the Beatitudes in Aramaic, the first few verses of Genesis in Hebrew, and the 99 names of Allah in Arabic, which I love to chant during my prayer work.  I enjoy knitting when I find the time and continually affirm TIME EXPANDS TO FILL MY NEEDS.  I LOVE MUSIC!

My Sufi friends call me Caylila which in Sanscrit means dancing or playing with God!  A name I give my best to live up to!
