The Writings of Charles Fillmore

1909   Christian Healing. Kansas City, Missouri: Unity Tract Society, 1909.

Though Charles Fillmore began writing journal articles in 1889, this work of twelve lessons was his first book.  It explores the process of spiritual development and healing.  It may be an original work and is still in print.

 

1926   Talks on Truth. Kansas City, Missouri: Unity School of Christianity, 1926.

First published as four-part pamphlet in 1909, it then served as a companion to Christian Healing. The text is based on Sunday lessons dating from 1894 – 1924.  Topics include God thought, God’s kingdom, Divine love, obedience, and the church of Christ.  It is still in print.

 

1930   Twelve Powers of Man. Kansas City, Missouri: Unity School of Christianity, 1930.

Before its publication as a book it first appeared as a series of Unity magazine articles in 1920, again in 1925 and finally in 1929.  The book explores Fillmore’s understanding of twelve spiritual body centers.  In 1999, this book and Cora Fillmore’s book Christ Enthroned in Man were combined into the text The Twelve Powers.

 

1936   Prosperity. Kansas City, Missouri: Unity School of Christianity, 1936.

This book explores the concept of spiritual substance and the principles of manifestation, giving and receiving and tithing.  The book is from collected essays and is still in print.

 

1936   Mysteries of Genesis. Kansas City, Missouri: Unity School of Christianity, 1936.

First proposed with the title Mysteries of Generation, it explores the meaning behind the Bible stories in the book of Genesis including spiritual man, the fall of man, and the development and creation of humanity.  The work is a compilation of lectures. It is still in print.

 

1939   Jesus Christ Heals. Kansas City, Missouri: Unity School of Christianity, 1939.

The book focuses on the character of prayer and the process of healing.  The contents were previously published and the book is still in print.

 

1941   Teach Us to Pray. Kansas City, Missouri: Unity School of Christianity, 1941. 

Coauthored with Cora Fillmore, the book focuses on the attitude and process of prayer.  The contents were previously published and the book is still in print.

 

1946   Mysteries of John. Kansas City, Missouri: Unity School of Christianity, 1946.

Its twenty-one chapters explore the mystical meaning behind the Bible stories in the book of John.  The work is a compilation of lectures. The book is still in print.


 

Books Compiled from Charles Fillmore’s Writings

 

1931   Metaphysical Bible Dictionary. Kansas City, Missouri: Unity School of Christianity, 1931.

Not written solely by Charles Fillmore, this monumental project was the work of many Unity workers, including Theodosia DeWitt Schobert.  This dictionary of more than 700 pages includes Hebrew and Greek meanings and spiritual explanations of most Bible people and place names.

 

1949   Atom Smashing Power of Mind. Kansas City, Missouri: Unity School of Christianity, 1949.

After Charles made his transition in 1948, Cora Fillmore and many others continued to compile works from his writings.  This book of collected essays includes previously published information from Unity magazine including “The Day of Judgment,” “Thinking in the Fourth Dimension” and the “Metaphysics of Shakespeare.”  It is still in print.

 

1953   Keep a True Lent. Lee’s Summit, Missouri: Unity School of Christianity, 1953.

Editors compiled the text from unpublished and previously essays and designed the book for practical study during Lent.  The volume includes seventeen chapters focusing on the conscience, affirmative words and thought.  Forty daily lessons encourage readers to prepare for “the resurrection of the mind from the darkness of its sins, doubts, and false beliefs into the light of understanding.”  It is still in print.

 

1959   Revealing Word. Lee’s Summit, Missouri: Unity School of Christianity, 1959.

The Editorial Department discussed the idea for this book as early as 1949.  Cora Fillmore compiled the 1200 definitions of metaphysical terms from the papers of Charles Fillmore.  Clinton Bernard served as a final editor.  This volume serves as a companion to the Metaphysical Bible Dictionary and is still in print.

 

1967   Dynamics for Living. Unity Village, Missouri: Unity Books, 1967.

Compiled and edited by Warren Meyer, this book includes chapters on Unity teachings about practical Christianity, God, consciousness, prayer, health, prosperity, love, baptism, and self-development.  It is still in print.
